Detroit's Tarik Skubal won his second straight American League Cy Young Award on Wednesday and Paul Skenes was named National League winner as Major League Baseball's top pitchers.
Skubal became the first American League repeat Cy Young winner since Pedro Martinez in 2000, receiving 26 of 30 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Skubal didn't match his 2024 pitching Triple Crown -- topping the AL in wins, strikeouts and earned-run-average (ERA).
But the dominant left-hander posted a lower ERA -- 2.21 to 2.39 -- and struck out more batters -- 241 to 228 -- than he did in 2024.
Skubal was one of five AL pitchers to throw a shutout this season, a complete-game two-hitter against the Cleveland Guardians that featured 13 strikeouts without a walk.
