The Catholic community in the Diocese of Mzuzu is mourning the tragic death of Father Benjamin Banda, who died in a fatal road accident on Thursday afternoon near Nthungwa in Mzimba District.

Reports indicate that Father Banda was among six people travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser pick-up returning from a funeral in Jenda when the vehicle was involved in the accident.

Two people, including Father Banda and Mr. Paul Kumwenda, were confirmed dead at the scene.

Ordained on October 30, 2021, at St. Theresa Parish in Katete, Father Banda was known for his humility, commitment, and deep devotion to pastoral service within the Mzuzu Diocese.

The Diocese has described his passing as a great loss to the church and the faithful he served.
