When I was younger, hearing unfamiliar noises inside the house always sent a shiver down my spine. There was something unnerving about those random creaks and rustles that seemed to come from nowhere, leaving me wondering what might be hiding nearby.

Usually, a bit of searching led me to some small animal crouched in the grass or clinging to a corner of the house. Their sounds, once frightening, often turned out to be desperate calls for help.

Whenever I could, I tried to lend a hand to these tiny wanderers, though moments like that didn’t come often.

Yet they do happen, and one Washington woman recently found herself in the middle of such an experience involving her attic fan. When she decided to investigate, the discovery that awaited her was entirely unexpected.
