CHENNAI: CPI State Secretary M Veerapandian has urged the state government to provide relief to temple guards, who were murdered by robbers, in Virudhunagar district.

Sankar Pandian (65) and Pechimuthu (50) of Kovilur were working as security guards at the Nachadai Thavirtharuliya Swami Temple in Devathanam, which is under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department. As usual, both were on night duty on November 10, 2025.

However, when the temple was opened the next morning it was discovered that both guards had been brutally murdered. The temple’s CCTV cameras had been smashed and removed, and valuable temple property had been looted," he said in a statement.
