Average transaction prices for 3-year-old used cars have been above $30,000 for each quarter of 2025 so far.
It was the highest third quarter average transaction price for those used cars since 2022, according to Edmunds.
The prices of new and used cars have been stubbornly high for a while.
But this year, those high prices are standing out.
New vehicles even hit a milestone in September, with average transaction prices passing the $50,000 mark for the first time, according to Kelley Blue Book.
But the used vehicle market is also a challenge for the budget conscious.
Ivan Drury, director of insights at Edmunds, said there’s something unusual about the price of 3-year-old used cars, which saw average transaction prices above $30,000 in the third quarter of this year, at $31,067, up
