Tata Motors will launch petrol-powered versions of the Harrier and Safari SUVs in India on December 9, 2025. This marks the company’s entry into the petrol SUV space for its flagship models, which have so far been offered only with diesel engines.
The launch will follow the debut of Tata’s new 1.5-litre T-GDI ‘Hyperion’ turbo-petrol engine, which is set to power the upcoming new-gen Sierra on November 25. This engine, developed over several years, features turbocharging and direct injection and produces 170 hp at 5,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm.
Built from lightweight aluminium, the engine includes technologies like a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger, variable valve timing, and an integrated exhaust manifold. It meets BS6 Phase II and E20 fuel norms
