First, I have to say it: I like this guy, Zohran Mumdani. Forget the labels, New York City seems like a darn tough place to be a politician, and it's the center of our national commerce. But Mumdani says things like "free public transportation," "free child care," "city-run not-for-profit grocery stores." He advocates increased public safety, more environmental protections, more equitable livable wages, and affordable housing.
That sounds all-American to me, like the American dream. Just like we have free public schools, free public fire stations and police departments, and free public libraries. And no-toll sidewalks and streets and all the other things that we in America expect our citizens to be able to share to have good lives. OK, I vented.
