A missing person who got stuck in a swampy area off Route 128 was rescued by officials in Manchester-by-the-Sea on Wednesday evening.
The North Shore Regional 911 Center was able to locate the person using What3Word — a software that assigns unique three-word addresses to 10-foot squares. The center pinpointed the missing person’s location to deep in the wooded swamp area off Route 128 south, the fire department wrote in a brief statement on Facebook .
Using that information, police were able to visually locate the person and guide fire crews to the “most effective access point to safely reach and extricate the individual from the water.”
