A 7-year-old Somerset County boy was hit by a car on Wednesday morning while crossing the street to board a school bus.

Conemaugh Township Police Chief told WJAC that the bus was slowing down along Seanor Road in Conemaugh Township that and its yellow lights were flashing when the child started to cross the road.

A paramedic was nearby when the incident occurred and provided medical assistance until first responders could arrive.

The boy was then taken to a hospital. The child’s grandmother told the news outlet that he is expected to recover but would stay in the hospital overnight.

Police said the driver of the vehicle that hit the child was cooperating with the authorities. The bus was later able to continue to the elementary school where the child is a student.
