CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man and a child were seriously injured early Thursday morning after an apartment fire on Chicago's Far South Side, Chicago fire officials said.

CFD responded to the blaze just before 5 a.m. in the 3000-block of West 111th Street in the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood.

The fire started on the first floor of a three-story apartment building and spread up into the other units, fire officials said.

The man and child were taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in serious condition, but remained stable, CFD said.

Fire officials did not immediately provide any additional information on the victims or how the fire started.

It was not clear if anyone was displaced.
