A Birmingham man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in east Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Eric Jonta Crayton. He was 35.

The wreck happened at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of Chalkville School Road.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Crayton was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle that left the road and hit a tree.

Crayton was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:39 p.m.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the wreck.
