PALATKA, Fla. — A Putnam County inmate is back in police custody after briefly escaping from a deputy Thursday morning, according to the sheriff's office.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office alerted the community after Eddie Tripp Jr., 27, ran from a corrections deputy while attending a medical appointment near HCA Florida Putnam Hospital for an acute ankle fracture.

PCSO said Tripp had been handcuffed to a walker he was using to help with his ankle injury. Following the appointment, he reportedly complained that the cuffs were hurting him. When the officer unlocked the cuffs to readjust them, PCSO said he "body slammed" the deputy and ran.

"We know, now you're wondering, how could someone run that fast with an acute fracture ... adrenaline and motivation," wrote PCSO on social media.
