Allen County Councilman Ken Fries, R-at large, has announced he's running for sheriff, a post he's held before.

Fries said Thursday that he wants to bring energy to the county sheriff’s department and “get the ship moving.” He is the first candidate who has announced an Allen County sheriff campaign for the 2026 election.

Fries was county sheriff for eight years before he ran for council. Indiana law prohibits anyone from serving as county sheriff for more than eight years in a 12-year period.

“In 2026, I want to get our department going in the right direction,” he said. “We had a robust reserve program when I was sheriff. They’re down to about 15 reserves now, and I want to get that going again. Those are the people that come out and volunteer their time and help the citizens of Allen
