Former U.S. President George W. Bush is among nearly a dozen people set to speak next week at the service for the late Dick Cheney, according to new funeral details released Thursday, Nov. 13.
The former vice president died on Nov. 3 of complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, his relatives said. He was 84.
The funeral is set for 11 a.m. on Nov. 20 at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington D.C.
“Vice President Cheney devoted decades of his life to public service at the highest levels of government,” the Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith, dean of Washington National Cathedral, said in a statement. “His life was marked by deep dedication to his family and to the country he served. We pray for his family and all who loved him.”
Cheney served under Bush from 2001 to 2009 and was considered one of the most powerful and controversial men to hold the office, in large part because of his role in leading the push to invade Iraq in 2003.
The service, according to a release from the cathedral, will be by invitation only and security measures will be in place to ensure the health and safety of the staff and guests in attendance.
The public is invited to watch the service online.
