The Carroll County School Board voted to move the school start date to before Labor Day for the 2026-27 school year.

In a meeting on Wednesday, the School Board unanimously voted for the proposal that would have the start date before Labor Day in 2026. This would make the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 31 and the last day of school on Friday, June 11. This was chosen over the start date of Tuesday, Sept. 8 that would have pushed the last day of school to Thursday, June 17.

Carroll County Superintendent Cynthia McCabe presented the two proposals to the public two months ago and said that the feedback leaned in favor of starting before Labor Day. The later date of Labor Day (Sept. 7) in 2026 is the main factor for the change. The winter and spring breaks were the same in both proposal
