A Louisiana grandmother was arrested following a fatal accident that claimed the life of her 5-year-old grandchild.

Slidell Police said officers responded Tuesday morning to a report of a child being struck by a car. The child was waiting in the driveway for the school bus when his grandmother got in her 2016 GMC Yukon to drive to work, authorities said.

Kristen Anders, 55, did not see the child outside and struck him while pulling out of the driveway.

Investigators at the scene conducted impairment tests on Anders and determined she was under the influence of alcohol and central nervous system depressants. Police did not state what depressants Anders may have taken.

Anders was placed under arrest and booked into jail on a charge of vehicular homicide.
