LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Regional Airport broke ground Thursday on a $6.6 million project to build two hangars, expanding the airport’s existing hangar space.

The hangars will be built adjacent to existing hangar facilities on the north end of the airport’s property. One will be a box hangar, 140 feet by 85 feet, which can fit several planes but is built to house a King Air and expected to be home to two aircraft, with a goal of attracting aviation business tenants. The other will be a T-hangar with room for 12 airplanes.
