( NewsNation ) — A city in Alaska is preparing to become the first in the United States to allow voters to cast ballots from their smartphones in its upcoming municipal election.
The New York Times reports Anchorage will allow residents to use a secure link to vote in April’s local races, including six city assembly seats and two school board contests. The city will continue to offer mail and in-person options.
The trial won’t apply to higher-profile state or federal elections later in the year, but officials say it could shape how Americans cast their ballots in the future.
