Three former corrections officers at the York County Jail are facing criminal charges after investigators say they accepted payments from an inmate in connection with a planned contraband scheme.

According to the York County Sheriff’s Office , the situation surfaced in April when officials received information suggesting that several officers had taken payments from an inmate at the jail.

WGME 13 explained that those payments were allegedly tied to the intended introduction of contraband inside the facility. During the investigation, all three officers including Kayleigh Hamilton, Emma Kehoe, and Zarek Melick resigned from their positions. Each had been working at the jail for roughly 18 months.

Melick, 26, of Lyman, has been indicted on a Class E charge of receiving improper gifts
