WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Williston Fire Chief Matt Clark says he will retire at the end of the year.

In an email, Clark told his staff he’s been blessed to work with them and ensures a smooth transition ahead of Jan. 2.

Clark has served as the fire chief since 2021 and has been a part of the Williston Fire Department since 2015.

The decision comes less than two months after Williston City Commissioners approved the city budget, which reduced some funding for the fire department.

In October, commissioners also voted down a FEMA grant aimed at hiring and training more firefighters.
