WATERBURY, Conn. — A dog is recovering after Waterbury police found her in labor while tied to a sign, and police are now seeking who is responsible for abandoning the pregnant dog. The puppies the dog was carrying did not survive, police said.

Officers were alerted on Sunday morning to a dog that was left tied to a sign on Cherry Street. The dog, a Pitbull, was pregnant and was in labor when police found her.

BARC CT , which named the dog Cassie, later took in the Pitbull and provided emergency treatment, but none of her puppies survived.

Now, Cassie is in a foster home, and police were told the dog is healing well.
