La Niña is here. What will it do to winter temperatures, rain in Mississippi?
"La Niña continued over the past month, as indicated by the strengthening of below-average sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean," federal forecasters from the Climate Prediction Center said in a Thursday, Nov. 13 statement .
The phenomenon is part of a natural climate cycle officially known as El Niño-Southern Oscillation, what scientists call ENSO .
At times, the cycle can increase the chances for rain, drought , hurricanes and other chaos. The effects can affect different regions of the United States very differently, depending on how strong the factors are and when they take effect.
