STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – The Washington Department of Ecology (WDOE) has announced the completion of a significant restoration project on the Columbia River public waterfront in Northport.

The project, which spanned six years, focused on addressing contamination from past smelting operations. The restoration efforts included the removal of hazardous materials such as copper, lead, and zinc.

More than 24,000 tons of waste was extracted from the site, with 4,000 tons of hazardous waste transported to Oregon for disposal.

The cleanup project was funded with $10.9 million from the Eastern Washington Clean Sites Initiative.
