Apple recently announced the launch of digital IDs to the Apple Wallet, and plans to roll out beta testing at TSA checkpoints in more than 250 U.S. airports.

The digital IDs will be created using information from a U.S. passport.

Apple says the digital IDs will be available to use for domestic flights at airports even for those who do not have a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license. However, they do not replace a U.S. passport required for international travel.

“When users create a Digital ID, their passport data is stored on the device,” Apple said in a press release. “Apple cannot see when and where users present their ID, or what data was presented.”
