LAKEWOOD — Greeley Central is headed to its first championship game in boys soccer.
All it took for the Wildcats was surviving a high-shooting, wildly-entertaining, physical and mostly one-sided Class 4A semifinal in which they were often on their heels at Trailblazer Stadium.
Oh … and goalkeeper Robert Humphrey. It took a lot of him.
Greeley Central’s senior keeper made several key saves though regulation and two overtimes Wednesday, none better than an acrobatic series of stops in the final minutes of the second OT. It set up penalty kicks, where second-seeded Silver Creek missed twice and Humphrey scored what would be the decisive penalty in the No. 6 Wildcats’ 0-0, 5-4 shootout win.
After the Raptors’ final try sailed above goal, Humphrey’s teammates buried him in a dog pile. Event
