TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The North Carolina Forest Service reports it is conducting a prescribed burn at the DuPont State Recreational Forest in Transylvania County on Thursday.

Micajah Trail, Rock Quarry Road and Wilkie Trail are closed to the public, and visitors are asked to use alternative trails, according to officials.

Officials report visitors should expect to see and smell smoke during the burn and several days afterwards.

A prescribed fire consumes vegetative fuels to reduce wildfire risk and improve the health of a forest and wildlife habitat, officials said.
