Prime Minister Mark Carney's government will not include an oil pipeline in its latest announcement of major projects. Alberta officials confirmed this ahead of the unveiling scheduled for Thursday. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith had expressed hope that an agreement with Ottawa would be reached by the time of the CFL Grey Cup game this Sunday. However, her office stated on Wednesday that "sensitive" negotiations are still ongoing to secure a spot for an oil pipeline on the fast-track list. In a statement, Smith's office said, "Currently, we are working on a memorandum of understanding with the federal government that includes the removal, carve out or overhaul of several damaging laws chasing away private investment in our energy sector, and an agreement to work towards ultimate approval of a bitumen pipeline to Asian markets." Carney is set to announce the new batch of nation-building projects in Terrace, British Columbia, on Thursday afternoon. Reports indicate that the list will feature several significant initiatives, including the Ksi Lisims LNG project on British Columbia’s northwest coast, which is the second-largest proposed liquefied natural gas project in Canada, following the Shell PLC-led LNG Canada. Other projects expected to be included are the Sisson Mine project for tungsten and molybdenum in New Brunswick, the Crawford nickel project in northeastern Ontario, and Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc.’s mine and battery-materials plant project in Quebec. Additionally, an Iqaluit hydro project and a major electricity transmission line in northern B.C. are also anticipated to be part of the announcement. This latest round of projects follows an earlier announcement made two months ago, which included a Montreal port expansion, a small modular nuclear plant in Ontario, and mining projects in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, along with phase two of LNG Canada.
