RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced today that SNAP benefits will resume full payments by Friday morning.
The decision comes after the U.S. House passed a funding bill to President Donald Trump, officially ending the nation’s longest shutdown last night.
The federal shutdown began October 1st and lasted a record-breaking 43 days, leading to nationwide uncertainty over delayed and partial SNAP benefits this month.
“As soon as we received authorization from the federal government, we immediately began working to get benefits out to the nearly 1.4 million people who depend on SNAP to keep food on the table,” said NC Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai.
