CITY HALL AND BENSONHURST — A BILL GRANTING COLD WAR-ERA VETERANS A PROPERTY TAX CREDIT HAS PASSED THE CITY COUNCIL, reports one of its cosponsors, Councilmember Susan Zhuang. The bipartisan bill had several Brooklyn cosponsors, including councilmembers Inna Vernikov and David Carr.

If Mayor Eric Adams signs the bill into law, it will establish a real property tax exemption for Cold War veterans, defined as persons who served on active duty in the United States armed forces for some period between Sept. 2, 1945 and Dec. 26, 1991 and who were honorably discharged or released. The exemption would apply to the veteran’s primary residence, or to the primary residence of the unremarried surviving spouse of a deceased veteran.
