MAINE, USA — Maine is applying for at least $500 million in federal funding to help transform the state’s rural health care system. The money would come from the Rural Health Transformation Program, a new national initiative that aims to invest in all 50 states over the next five years.
The program comes from the Trump Administration’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” and sets aside $50 billion to strengthen health systems in rural communities. Each state is guaranteed at least $500 million, with additional funds available for those demonstrating the greatest need.
Maine’s application outlines five key focus areas: population health, workforce development, technology innovation, access to care, and creating sustainable rural health ecosystems.
