A 10-year-old child is recovering after being struck by a vehicle while waiting for their school bus in Van Buren County’s Porter Township on Thursday.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to the 72,000 block of 22nd around 8:10 a.m. on a report of a car-pedestrian crash. They learned the child was crossing the road after checking a family mailbox when they were struck by an SUV driven by a 38-year-old woman. The driver immediately called 911.
Lawton Quick Response, Van Buren EMS, and Van Buren County deputies provided medial aid to the child at the scene. They were later taken to Bronson Hospital for further care.
The Van Buren County Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
