A head-on crash involving three vehicles left one driver dead and another critically injured in Newberry Township on Wednesday, Nov. 12, authorities announced on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
William Cowell, 27, of Etters, was attempting to pass another vehicle along the 3100 block of Lewisberry Road around 10:30 p.m. when his 2019 Volkswagen Jetta struck a 2018 Nissan Altima head-on, according to the updated release from the Newberry Township Police Department.
Cowell was pronounced dead at the scene by the York County Coroner’s Office.
The 25-year-old woman driving the Altima was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries and remains in critical but stable condition, police said.
The occupants of a third vehicle were not injured.
Cowell worked as a manager at AMC in Mechanicsburg, according to his social media. His previous jobs included truck team positions with Tyler’s Transport LLC and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? as well as serving as an assistant store manager at Turkey Hill Minit Markets. He attended Red Land High School.
The Newberry Township Police Department continues to investigate the crash. No further details will be released at this time.
