Trump is once again dangling promises of direct payments in the form of signed “$2,000 tariff rebate checks” in a series of fundraising emails sent this week by his political group Never Surrender, Inc.
The messages, styled as personal memos from Trump, ask supporters whether they would “take a tariff rebate check signed by yours truly” and claim that “ultra libs in Congress are trying to hold up your rebate check.”
The emails frame the supposed checks as rewards made possible by Trump’s tariff policies, despite there being no legislative authorization to issue them.
Trump has teased both tariff checks and DOGE checks as high as $5,000 in previous fundraising emails, none of which have materialized.
