CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Ohio Wildlife Council approved new white-tailed deer hunting limits in Athens, Meigs, Morgan, and Washington counties for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
Beginning Dec. 1, the opening day of the seven-day deer gun season, the bag limit for Athens, Meigs, and Washington counties is reduced to one deer.
The bag limit in Morgan County is now two deer per person.
The limit reduction is due to an outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD).
According to the Cornell Wildlife Health Lab, Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) is a viral disease that primarily affects white-tailed deer, though it can also impact mule deer, pronghorn antelope, and domestic ruminants like sheep, cows, and goats. It’s caused by two related viruses: Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease
