A house fire early Thursday in the Minnow Lake area has been deemed suspicious.

A passerby noticed smoke from the building on Howey Drive at Somerset Street around 6:30 a.m. and contacted Greater Sudbury Fire Services, said deputy chief Jesse Oshell.

“The house was under renovation and unoccupied,” he said. “So no-one was living in the residence and there are no injuries to report.”

Oshell said the cause was not immediately obvious and the scene was turned over to Greater Sudbury Police and the fire marshal’s office for further investigation.

The fire caused significant damage, he said, although he didn’t have an exact estimate in terms of dollar loss.
