Hampton City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to instruct city staff to create proposals to regulate where new vape shops can be located.
The proposed rules may prohibit retail tobacco and hemp products from being sold within 1,000 feet of a school or child daycare, and may add further regulations on permissible sale locations in the city. It is unclear whether existing vape shops will be permitted to continue selling the products if they are near schools of daycares.
Vapes, otherwise known as “e-cigarettes,” use flavored water vapor to deliver nicotine rather than tobacco smoke and have grown in popularity in recent years. However, it is unclear how many vape shops currently exist in Hampton.
