Anwar El Ghazi has reminded his former club Mainz that no one is above the law after they lost a court appeal against his wrongful dismissal.
Mainz terminated his contract two years ago in response to social media posts about the war in Gaza. El Ghazi took legal action by raising a wrongful dismissal complaint to the Mainz Labour Court, a case he won last summer.
As a result, the club had to pay £1.3m to El Ghazi in outstanding wages. Mainz then appealed, but the Rhineland-Palatinate State Labour Court have upheld its original decision, and they cannot appeal again.
