NoRa Cupcake Company didn’t just rise to the top of the state's bakery mountain — it frosted the competition with more than 300 flavors and a loyal Connecticut fan base that swears there’s magic in every bite.
The TakeOut recently named the Middletown bakery one of the 50 best in the country and the top in the Nutmeg State.
NoRa earned praise for its bold flavors and creative style. Local fans know the shop well. Many say the honor feels overdue.
The ranking pointed to bakeries that show “inventive and beautiful creations” and a “commitment to high-quality ingredients.” For Connecticut, NoRa Cupcake Company stood out for its wild flavor list and long-running ties to the community.
The shop first opened with a small menu. As the list notes, it began “with just a few options on New Year’s Eve in 2011.” Today the team has built something far bigger. According to the review, NoRa now boasts over 200 cupcake flavors. The lineup includes the rich 50 Shades Darker “with ganache and buttercream” and the boozy Hair of the Dog “with bourbon caramel fudge and Jameson ganache.” The most popular remains the Irish Car Bomb, which mixes “chocolate stout cake with Jameson ganache and Baileys cream cheese.”
NoRa changes its menu every day. The feature notes the shop has “200+ rotating flavors.” Customers can pick from cupcakes, cakes, and other treats. Many are playful. Others lean decadent. All drive steady crowds to the storefront.
For local eaters, the recognition highlights a homegrown success that keeps evolving. Some bakeries grow large and well-known. Others stay small on purpose. NoRa has found its own lane and built a loyal following along the way.
