HOUSTON – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says a 53-year-old man who was in custody at the Harris County Jail died at a hospital Thursday after contracting bacterial meningitis.

The man, whose identity is being withheld in accordance with medical privacy laws, had been in the hospital since Tuesday, after he began displaying symptoms while housed in the 1200 Baker Street jail facility.
