MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A federal jury has found a local woman guilty of using her cosmetology school to steal over $625,000 from a federal program designed to help veterans further their education.
Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that 53-year-old Quannah Fields Harris, of Germantown, Tennessee, has been convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
She was the owner of Last Minute Cuts School of Barbering and Cosmetology, located at 2195 South Third Street in Memphis.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee says Harris engaged in a five-year-long scheme, from 2014 to 2019, to cheat the GI Bill, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
