ANNAPOLIS, Md. —
Maryland Republican leaders introduced legislation to prevent the potential redrawing of the state's congressional maps.
The lawmakers announced the Fair Districts for Maryland Act to seek a 10-member bipartisan commission to address redistricting only in the year following the census and ensure any new districts make sense geographically.
"It will put into statute and affirm once and for all that the redistricting process is a once-a-decade process," Maryland House Minority Leader Jason Buckel, R-District 1B, said at a news conference Thursday morning.
Senate Minority Leader Steve Hershey, R-District 36, said Democratic Gov. Wes Moore has abandoned Maryland voters in favor of national Democratic politics.
