PORTSMOUTH, N.H. —
With the government shutdown over, U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, is making a push for another bipartisan deal to avoid big increases in health insurance costs for those with coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
At Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Thursday, Hassan acknowledged the outrage coming from her own party over the deal to reopen the government, but she said that outside the world of politics, reactions are different.
"First of all, somebody in the emergency room, one of the family members of a patient who was here today just looked at me and said, 'Thank you for ending the shutdown,'" Hassan said.
