NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A 19-count indictment charges seven Connecticut residents with stealing and cashing approximately 1,300 U.S. Treasury checks worth more than $3.1 million altogether.
The checks were stolen from a U.S. Post Office in Hartford earlier this year.
The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in New Haven on Oct. 28, according to a report Thursday from David Sullivan, the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
The indictment charges Michael Atkinson, 27, of East Hartford; Roland McTaggart, 27, of Hartford; Sharif Djibo, 28, of East Hartford; Romario Rose, 31, of Newington; Jashawn Atkinson, 23, of Hartford; and Adrian Olivero, 53, of New Britain, with offenses related to their alleged scheme.
