Zohran Mamdani, New York City's mayor-elect, has spoken with several Democratic governors, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, seeking their insight for how to navigate certain aspects of governing and best deal with President Donald Trump, several sources familiar with the conversations confirmed to ABC News.

Mamdani met with Hochul on Thursday for 90 minutes, according to Hochul's office. The pair discussed, among other things, "ongoing attacks from Washington Republicans on New York and how best to protect New Yorkers amid escalating federal threats."

The governor and mayor-elect also discussed his transition planning and early appointments, and how they could partner to ensure the incoming administration is successful in delivering for New Yorkers.
