COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) -Finlay Park, a centerpiece of downtown Columbia, will reopen Saturday after a major revitalization project that city leaders say will transform the area.
The park closed in September 2023 for renovations. City officials said Thursday the final price tag for the project is more than $25 million, with an additional $2 million budgeted annually for maintenance and upkeep.
“This park is coming back to the community in a way it’s never been seen before,” said Henry Simons, Columbia’s assistant city manager. “It doesn’t feel like we’re in Columbia anymore with this park.”
The redesigned space includes new amenities such as a fitness center, pickleball courts, playgrounds and a landing station where visitors can buy water, sunscreen and rent rollerblades. Simons said the
