HARWINTON, CT (WFSB) - Christmas tree shoppers in Connecticut may need to spend more this season as farmers face rising costs from inflation and challenging weather conditions.
The Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association estimates most growers will increase their prices by about $5 per tree this year.
“It’s the same as everything else, it’s no different,” said Jon Sederquist, who operates Deeply Rooted Farms in Harwinton.
Inflation and weather create challenges
Farmers’ costs have increased due to inflation, according to the Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association. Recent dry seasons have also made growing trees more expensive.
“As the size goes up the labor goes up, just like kids,” Sederquist said.
