RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention is working to address some of the city’s issues, but councilmembers say current efforts may not be reaching the most at-risk populations.

The initiative was launched under Mayor Danny Avula in the spring after he made it clear it was a priority at the beginning of his time in office.

In June, Greg Hopkins was tapped to lead the office.

Hopkins previously worked with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.

He spent the last several months trying to find the gaps in the current services Richmond offers. Hopkins says his office aims to implement a coordinated and holistic approach to reducing community violence.
