WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - Federal, state and local crews are working to extinguish a wildfire that has impacted traffic in Wakulla County on Thursday.

More than 140 acres have burned near the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.

On Thursday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said U.S. 98 was reduced to one lane about two miles east of Newport near Echo Drive, with troopers managing traffic until the Florida Department of Transportation arrived to assist with traffic control.

Right now, the blaze is about 90% contained, according to officials.

The fire comes amid a months-long drought in the Big Bend and South Georgia, with dry and above-average warmth expected to continue into next week.
