MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - In Massac County, the first phase of the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge project is wrapping up.
Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) officials say the first of three phases is nearing completion after some fabrication delays.
The bridge connects Massac County, Illinois, with McCracken County, Kentucky.
The first phase was supposed to be completed in mid-October, but engineers say that delays pushed the project back several weeks.
IDOT Engineer Ben Wills says he’s hoping more lanes will be open to traffic before the holidays.
“The hope is to be open by Thanksgiving or shortly after. Then, next year, traffic control will be put back in place in March. So the public gets a break from us for the wintertime. But it is a multi-year project,” says Wills.
