Former University of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron made what was likely his first appearance before a Republican political organization Thursday, attending an Eastern Shore Republican Women’s luncheon and meeting with GOP officials from Baldwin County.

McCarron, 35, introduced himself as a candidate for Alabama’s No. 2 political office – lieutenant governor - during the luncheon that featured two speakers, Baldwin County Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood and Maddie Lawrence, Field Representative for Turning Point USA’s Club America.

He did not give public comments, nor did he take many pictures, and remained mostly seated at a table that included Republican Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery.
